Lewis Bartram was transported to Van Dieman's Land in 1833, for a heinous crime: duck-stealing. His brother Henry was also involved. Henry was transpported to New South Wales. Lewis was just 16 years of age. His child, Joseph Bartram, was born in Launceston, Tasmania, in the 1861. He 'migrated' to Victoria in the 1880s, and settled in Stratford. There he married Sarah Light, the grand daughter of Sir William Light, one of the founders of Adelaide.
